Welcome to Allen Elementary

Welcome to the homepage of Allen Elementary Professional Development School.  It is a great honor and pleasure for me to become part of the Allen family as the newly appointed principal.  I am very excited about what we plan to achieve during the 2011-2012 school year.  Our theme for this year is Allen Elementary students are “Soaring to Success…”.  Our school has moved up in the state academic rankings this year from Academic Watch to Continuous Improvement. This great accomplishment was achieved through the hard work of the students and staff last year.  We are continuing our quest to success and excellence this year, and working hard to show even greater gains.  

Allen School staff is establishing a reputation for being a group of professional and caring educators who are dedicated to helping each student achieve at his or her personal best.  We are diligently working together to create and maintain an atmosphere of academic excellence and moral character through our Peace Builder Program.  Within this effort, we are fortunate to be a part of many great partnerships. We have established a unique and primary partnership with the University of Akron College of Education.  This partnership is a professional development opportunity for Allen staff and University of Akron pre-service teachers in an effort to provide staff development and opportunities for teachers-in-training to work in the elementary school setting, while allowing Allen students to benefit from the extra instructional support that is provided by the university students.  This project supports the goals of our school by providing targeted interventions to help our students increase their academic achievement.

Other community partnerships include a newly established Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), the Allen Collaborative Team (ACT) which is comprised of a group of representatives from area agencies who meet monthly to share information and ideas that benefit our school community, Mercy Medical Center PALS, a partnership with the Heartbeats of the City and TIQVAH – Hands of Hope, after school program providers, and Sherrick Rd. Church of God, the Canton Symphony Orchestra, and Sisters of Charity who are collaborating with us to provide free violin lessons for our students.  

All of these great opportunities, along with our goal-focused instruction, are what make Allen Elementary PDS School a great place to be!
